Your Guide For Mature Skin

Your Guide For Mature Skin

Aging is inevitable and comes for all of us. And what a great thing, isn’t it? To age means to live, and may we all be so lucky to do so long enough to develop fine lines and wrinkles. If you start to see some pop up on your own face, just take it as a sign that you're living fully—there's a reason they are called expression lines. While you age, it's important to support your skin health so it can perform, look, and feel its best for longer. That's why this guide exists: To go over what exactly your skin care routine should look like to support maturing skin. These types of rituals are typically labeled as "anti-aging" skin care rituals. We are not against aging in the least. These steps are simply to help our muses treat their skin with kindness as it matures so it can perform as best as possible. Let's get into it.

The Basics :

  1. Invest in skincare tools that help lift, tighten, and contour the face, such as Gua Sha, LED Light Mask, and a microcurrent face stimulator.
  2. Facial cupping promotes circulation, which may help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, decrease puffiness, and more.
  3. Staying active and working out on the regular keeps your body and muscles working properly, and of course strengthens your muscles, which ultimately can prevent sagginess.
  4. Don't use hot water. This only strips your skin of hydration. Instead, use lukewarm water.
  5. Thick, moisturizing creams and oils will help lock moisture in. Always apply at night and in the morning.
  6. Exfoliate at least once a week. We love using enzyme peels to gently regenerate skin and reveal a beautiful glow.
  7. Over time, dark spots or age spots can form as a result of sun exposure or environmental damage. Mature skin types should focus on skin brightening using a brightening face mask during the week which can help reduce the appearance of dark spots and create a more even-toned complexion.
  8. Don't leave the house without sunscreen. It wouldn’t be a mindful-aging guide without reminding everyone to apply sunscreen every day. That means on your neck and hands too (which is one of the first areas that starts to show the signs of aging).
  9. Sleep on quality pillowcases and bedding. Silk helps reduce fine lines caused by sleeping on your side, aka when your face is buried deep in your pillow.

Ingredients to include in your routine :

- HYALURONIC ACID : Starting in your 30s and 40s, hyaluronic levels begin to decrease, which is what makes fine line and deep wrinkles more noticeable. When applied topically, hyaluronic acid can help replenish and retain cell moisture (it holds 1,000 times its weight in water), which is why it’s such a common ingredient in both serums and moisturizers—particularly in formulas targeting mature skin.

- RETINOL : For wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and invisible photodamage, looking to retinol, a derivative of vitamin A that when applied topically, promotes skin renewal, brightens skin tone, clearing up hyperpigmentation, and aids in production of collagen. It can be especially beneficial in tending to eye-area concerns, working in combination with peptides to stimulate new collagen, and in turn, support the laxity of the tissue.

- VITAMIN C :  Another key ingredient for brightening up a dull complexion and erasing sun spots is vitamin C, which helps treat and fight against free radical damage that causes oxidative stress and skin aging. The powerhouse antioxidant also works to fade away hyperpigmentation. Find the right concentration for your skin type in a serum or moisturizer. Also important to note, most potent forms of vitamin C are vulnerable to light exposure, and therefore the use of vitamin C must go hand-to-hand with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB coverage.

- PEPTIDES : They can stimulate skin to make more collagen. They also have preventative benefits that reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Peptides have anti-inflammatory properties that could soothe irritation or redness.

The Ritual :

It’s important to note that everyone’s skin is different, so take these guidelines with a grain of salt. With that said, these are our glow ritual essentials.

  • CLEANSE : One of the best ways to put a fresh face forward, at any age, is to use a cleanser daily. For those dealing with dullness, dryness, and dark spots, a face wash with revitalizing superhero ingredients like Agent Nateur's Acid(wash) Lactic Acid Skin Brightening Cleanser, is a must. Think of it as your first line of defense in keeping skin stressors at bay. As women age, skin becomes thinner with less collagen, decreased elasticity, increased wrinkling, and increased dryness. This is why it's important to use cleansers that hydrate, lightly exfoliate, and brighten the skin.

  • TONE : A good toner or essence such as Augustinus Bader's The Essence minimizes pores and helps the skin look smoother and more luminous. With ingredients like Vitamin E, Phytic Acid and TFC8® to hydrate the skin and help it absorb creams & moisturizers, providing a tighter look, and helping prevent environmental stress to the skin.
  • TREAT : Nurture your most delicate skin with this cooling Agent Nateur Ageless Eye Serum formulated with gentle ingredients. This serum includes caffeine, cucumbers, chamomile and calendula, which make amazing natural ingredients to help calm and soothe, while also promote the appearance of smooth, nourished, moisturized skin. Pitaya blocks blue fluorescence under UV light, preserves the appearance of ageless skin, tightens, hydrates and exfoliates for a brighter and more luminous complexion.

  • MOISTURIZE : Look for intensely hydrating and nourishing products. Our favorite is the Rich Cream by Augustinus Bader. Powered by TFC8® technology, which triggers your existing stem cells to repair and renew your skin. This revolutionary complex uses natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins, and synthesized molecules to visibly reduce signs of aging and environmental damage while providing deep hydration, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, evening out the skin’s texture, and protecting the complexion from oxidative stress.

  • SPF : Sunscreen is a vital part of any skin-care routine and can be the most impactful product in terms of prevention, as sun damage equals signs of aging. Because mature skin is generally more delicate, dry and prone to fine lines and wrinkles, it should be a top priority to find a sunscreen that not only has a high SPF, but is also hydrating and antioxidant-rich. We love the Calendula Essential Hydrating SPF 30 by Naturopathica.

Boost Your Skin Glow :

  • GUA SHA : Use your gua sha to aid with lymphatic drainage while penetrating ingredients in serums or face oils deeper into the skin. Plus, it helps reveal your beautiful cheeks and jawline. Book Your Gua Sha Lymphatic Massage.

  • FACIAL MASSAGE : is our favorite way to encourage radiance: it boosts blood supply to the skin and floods cells with vital nutrients and oxygen, promoting the rosy glow. Use your hands in an upward motion to not drag the skin. Always use a face oil or creamy serum for proper glide. Book Your Extended Sana Lifting + Lymphatic Facial Massage.

  •  MICROCURRENT : stimulates and energizes facial muscles to achieve a visibly lifted, toned and gorgeously contoured look with zero down time.  A muse favorite facial add on that you can now enjoy at home with the Purelift face. It uses patented muscle stimulation to deeply activate and elevate your facial muscles, giving you the appearance of a fuller, more youthful face in just 10 minutes. Nourish your skin from within :

When we pack our diet with vibrant foods loaded with antioxidants, healthy fats, water, and essential nutrients, our body will show its appreciation through its largest organ: our skin. After all, the skin is often the first part of our body to show internal trouble, and there’s only so much that lotions, creams, masks, and serums can do before we need to take a closer look at what’s fueling us. Here are 10 of the best anti-aging foods to nourish your body for a glow that comes from within.

  • Watercress. The health benefits of watercress don’t disappoint. This nutrient-dense hydrating leafy green is a great source of: calcium, potassium, manganese, and vitamins A, C, K, B-1, and B-2. Watercress acts as an internal skin antiseptic and increases the circulation and delivery of minerals to all cells of the body, resulting in enhanced oxygenation of the skin. Packed with vitamins A and C, the antioxidants in watercress may neutralize harmful free radicals, helping to keep fine lines and wrinkles away.

  • Red bell peppers. Loaded in vitamin C — which is good for collagen production — red bell peppers contain powerful antioxidants called carotenoids. Carotenoids are plant pigments responsible for the bright red, yellow, and orange colors you see in many fruits and vegetables. They have a variety of anti-inflammatory properties and may help protect skin from sun damage, pollution, and environmental toxins.

  • Papaya. This popular superfood is rich in a variety of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that may help to improve skin elasticity and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The wide range of antioxidants in papaya helps to fight free radical damage and may delay fine lines + wrinkles. Papaya also contains an enzyme called papain, which provides additional benefits by working as one of nature’s best anti-inflammatory agents; it may help your body shed dead skin cells, leaving you with glowing, vibrant skin.

  • Blueberries. Rich in vitamins A and C, and an antioxidant called anthocyanin. This is what gives blueberries their deep, beautiful blue color. These powerful antioxidants may help protect skin from damage due to the sun, stress, and pollution by moderating the inflammatory response and preventing collagen loss.

  • Broccoli. An anti-inflammatory powerhouse packed with vitamins C and K, a variety of antioxidants, fiber, folate, lutein, and calcium. Your body needs vitamin C for the production of collagen, the main protein in skin that gives it strength and elasticity.

  • Spinach. Super hydrating and packed with antioxidants that help to oxygenate and replenish the entire body. This versatile leafy green’s high vitamin C content enhances collagen production to keep skin firm and smooth. But that’s not all. The vitamin A it provides may promote strong, shiny hair, while vitamin K has been shown to help reduce inflammation in cells.

  • Nuts. Many nuts (especially almonds) are a great source of vitamin E, which may help repair skin tissue, retain skin moisture, and protect skin from damaging UV rays. Walnuts even contain anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids that may help: strengthen skin cell membranes, protect against sun damage, and give skin a beautiful glow by preserving its natural oil barrier.

Daily Supplements:

Beauty from the inside out. If you haven't added a skin-care-focused supplement to your routine, then there's no time like now. Topical clean products are great for addressing surface-level concerns of the skin, but for overall support, oral supplements can aid in hydration, elasticity, firmness, and tone. Of course there is no such thing as a miracle pill for skin or any 'skin glow' shortcut… However, supplements usually contain ingredients we know to play important roles in skin functions and overall health. There are many healthy aging ingredients to consider, such as antioxidants and collagen support. They are an excellent place to start if you're new to skin supplements!

* A Tip From

Our Skin Healer :

Embrace your skin above all, but also be gentle with it and protect your skin barrier. You want to treat it as a dry or sensitive skin type, even if it’s not. Find out which type of chemical exfoliator your skin likes most, and exfoliate every few days instead of once or twice a week.

Go to product : The Renew Linne Serum.

It is a great option for daily serum that helps to gently exfoliate without being too harsh. It contains Vitamin A and C, aka rejuvenating in a bottle.

Takeaway :

Caring for your skin at any age is important. It is only natural to want to help support your skin by improving the look and feel of your complexion throughout the years. Just remember that how you treat your soul is how you treat your skin. Both need nourishment, care, and love; gentle is the name of the game when you're looking to care for yourself in any shape and form. Growing older is not the opposite of youth. Aging is part of the continuum with old and young coexisting. Aging brings many gifts. With time, we are able to slow down, let go of things that don’t really matter and enjoy what matters most. We get to find meaning and authentic happiness in our later years of life. Mindfulness can help us to experience aging with ease and joy. Don’t let the quest for youth, or the beauty standards society tends to pressure us women with, make you forget all the best parts of maturity. Make every laugh your heartiest, every smile from ear to ear, because those laugh lines represent the best parts of your life, and you should be reminded of all the happy memories when you look at them.
